Whether dog walking my own dogs or when out with four legged clients, specially with such a cold weather here in the Toronto area, I find myself HUNGRY in the afternoon and with barely enough energy to finish anything. I must admit I gained some pounds by skipping meals. I realized then a change was over due. I’m very exited to share this journey with you and I hope you find this column useful, empowering or entertaining. I’m looking forward to feeling with more energy so I can do more things with the ones I love, like my two boxers Mylo and Chico, who lately had been some sort neglected as I’m always EXHAUSTED and low on energy.
Enough said, I truly believe baby steps are key for success when it comes down to achieving goals. They say, it takes 24 days to change habits, so here I am writing this post to tell YOU I will be doing some smart moves. My first step is to EAT healthy snacks so I can fit extra nutrients into my diet and prevent overeating at mealtimes.
The healthy Avocado Tapa snack is one of my favourites. It is done in less than 10min, very low calories and when using a dog shaped toaster, you will have a very funky snack!
{INGREDIENTS}
2 slices of Weight Watchers Breads low-fat.
1/2 avocado
1/2 tomato
sliced jalapeño peppers
mayonnaise, mustard and salt (optional)
{HOW IT IS DONE}
Smash 1/2 avocado to create a soft creamy paste. Once the bread is toasted, spread the avocado paste and add some tomato slices. If you would like to spice up the tapa, add some jalapeño pepper slices. {You can also add mayonnaise, mustard. I had mine plain as I really wanted to enjoy the avocado flavour.
{WHAT TO PAIR IT WITH}
Since it was a very cold day, I paired the Avocado Tapa with a home made cinnamon vanilla skinny late. I used Nabob Skinny Latte and added cinnamon powder and cinnamon sticks to garnish. YUMMY!!!
DOG SAFETY!
Keep in mind Avocados and tomatoes are TOXIC for dogs. When preparing your Avocado Tapa ensure your dog is not around to counter surf and get into anything that he shouldn’t! Avocado is the only fruit to contain persin, a fatty acid, which, when eaten by animals causes vomiting, diarrhea, and other nasty symptoms. Consumption of large quantities can cause death within twelve hours.
DOG TIP!
Teaching your dog manners is a WIN-WIN! My two boxers know they are not allowed in the Kitchen while mom is preparing meals. Instead they learnt to go play somewhere near by so I can still watch them, or just to chill on their beds until I am done. The reward, a very yummy frozen crunchy berry or strawberry. They LOVE IT!
