Open Farm is a new “dry dog food” or kibble available to Canadian dogs. They are the first major pet food company Certified Humane® Raised and Handled pet foods in Canada. Today we’re sharing with you Mylo’s product review and, for the best part, we are running a contest where two winners will get to enjoy {oh well, their pooches will} this new kibble doing some good all over Canada.
For those reading this blog for a while and following Mylo’s adventures, you know he is on a raw diet. I decided it was necessary to find a dry food I could trust to feed Mylo when we are away. Reality is, at least for this mama, not many pet care agencies or friends that I trust, are willing to feed raw. So finding Open Farm happened at the perfect time.

{THE PRODUCT}
Mylo tried Open Farm’s three available recipes: CATCH-OF-THE-DAY WHITEFISH & GREEN LENTIL, HOMESTEAD TURKEY & CHICKEN and FARMER’S MARKET PORK & ROOT VEGETABLE; being the pork protein his favourite and the fish protein the one he tried last, although he finished it all.
All of their recipes offer ingredients description, guaranteed analysis and feeding guide that you can find on Open Farm website. The recipes are also grain, corn, wheat, soy and preservatives free and none of their ingredients come from China. This Canadian company develops all their recipes in their headquarter in Toronto, while their manufacturing facility is located in the Midwest United States. This one facilitates their local vegetable program and access to audited and certified partner farms.
{WHERE TO BUY}
Open Farm recipes come in three sizes: 4.5lbs ($26.99 CAD), 12lbs ($52.99 CAD) and 24lbs ($99.00 CAD. They are available in pet specialty stores and can be located on their website with the Open Farm retail locater.
{THE TEST & RESULTS}
The kibble was moist and it came in a slightly smaller size of the average kibble (the I know of). I really liked this size because it can be used for training. I find kibble always leaves a strong smell around the house or on Mylo’s snout, but this was not the case with Open Farm. I should mention, there was a stronger smell with the fish protein than the others, which it is normal.
As soon as I opened the package Mylo ran to his dinner bowl, but instead I put the kibble in tiny bowls to let him decide which one he wanted to try first. He picked pork, then turkey/chicken, and left the fish as his last option. Open Farm dog food didn’t cause him gas or running stool, which made me happy because other kibbles he tried before had caused that reaction on him.
